I've had some rogues that were pretty powerful fighters and you would keep your gains in AC and WC, though not get any more till you changed him back again.
*Using my "low frustration" strategy, I have so much gear and such strong characters that I can cruise level 10 with a brand new character with like 12 hit points and only have an occasional death. It's an interesting challenge to keep him/her alive when one breath of anything will kill. Plus I have a hypothesis that you get rarer items with "precocious" characters. I don't want to know if it's not true; why burst my bubble?
