You may want to do that even if you do have space left in the roster, if your party was level 4 or under. It doesn't take long to build up to level 4, so you might be best off just ditching the old characters and creating an all-new party (possibly even re-creating the same characters?).

I haven't done that myself -- I've actually only had one death so far -- but it's a suggestion.
