> HELPFUL help would be very much appreciated and thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

Use the crate to help with the hammer; better wait until he's out of the room, though. As for the focus stone, examine the front gate of Laro. See anything someone has that you need? Maybe you could break down the gate somehow. Too bad they don't have any boulders in Laro...
