Can't Get the Stupid Focus Stone... PLEASE help me!

I am very, very, very stuck. I'm in the marble plate room and can't do anything. I feel stupid again. I've poked around in the city of Laro-how-ever-you-spell-it and the chasm. I can't get find the old focus stone... And I can't get the hammer. I have:
496 Gold Coins
Diving Mask
Guard's Sword
Bucket
Key of Opening
10 Red Gemstones
Pick
Stone of Strengthening
Rope
Portrait
5 Black Gemstones
Life Preserver
Food Rations
Wire Clippers
Crate
HELPFUL help would be very much appreciated and thanks in advance to anyone who replies.
