I made some comments about Murfreesboro recently, and I want to add a few facts. Murfreesboro is a great place to visit. It was the site of The Battle of Stones River during The War. Many yankee and rebel soldiers are buried near there. If you go there, be sure to visit Stones River National Battlefield, Cannonsburg, MTSU, and, starting at the pre-Civil War courthouse, take a drive down East Main Street. Many of the houses in the area date to before The War. Look at Oakland, a beautiful old mansion that is located a few blocks north of East Main. On the MTSU campus, the buildings are mostly named for people who were my professors in the 1950's. I understand that they did that to honor me, and I am grateful. Be sure you look up Jones Hall where I lived(if you can call it living) as a Freshman in 1953. I don't think they have torn it down yet. Another building that is noteworthy is the President's Home at the corner of East Main and Tennessee Blvd. "Old Main," which was formerly known as the Administration Building, was built in 1911. It is Classic Greek in style and very impressive. I think they have fixed the squeeky floors. Howard
