help; dragon in GOA

i took a turn in the cave and now i'm trying to kill a dragon, i've run south & west (well tried to), i've parried, attacked, dodged and run away. But no good, i've injured the dragon but i can't kill it. Does anyone have any suggestions please?
i have:
64 gold coins, magic armour, ticket, key of questioning, life preserver, guard's sword, stone of strengthening, food rations, dead fish, bucket, rope & crate.
