Heh, sorry. It's actually an interesting idea. I do think that the synth soundtrack is very much on purpose and kind of in keeping with the way the movie takes stock fantasy elements and combines them in such a way that the falseness is sort of apparent. The sets, for example, really kind of look like they're painted cardboard, and the costumes really look like costumes. So it makes sense that the soundtrack would be not quite a genuine orchestra but a poor imitation.

However, more of my "shock convulsions" were at the idea of remaking it at all. One could certainly take the existing movie and replace the musical score. Rob Reiner could come out with a "Special Edition" that swaps out the soundtrack, and that's all it would take. I wouldn't mind that, either, provided the original version remains equally available. If *only* the soundtrack were changed, it would be trivial to include both versions on a single DVD.

So, no need to remake it. But if you *did* remake it -- as in, recast it, shoot it all over again, etc -- I just can't imagine it working. The popularity of that movie kind of hinges on the original actors -- Andre the Giant, Wallace Shawn, etc. Even recasting a bit part, like the Ancient Booer or Valerie, would strike a profound note of wrongness by the movie's die-hard fans, wouldn't you think? I suspect even just substituting an alternate take of many key scenes would be a put-off.

So, *shrug*. That's all I meant.
