This morning, my wife booked a cruise. So in October, on the way to the poor house, we are going to sail from L.A. to Hawaii, and back.

We misuse that word "sail" a lot. Most ships don't have sails these days, but the verb form has come to apply to almost any voyage. I have always wanted to sail across an ocean. The Pacific is so big, halfway across compares to crossing the Atlantic.

I have yet to set foot on another continent, but I have been to islands very close to Europe and South America. Just seeing a coast line in the hazy distance doesn't count. Someday . . .
