This is true. A story...

While we were on vacation recently, one of the things we did was to go on a trolley tour ride. The trolleys had limited seating, and so we called ahead to find out when we should come in order to make a certain departure time. We ended up arriving about an hour before our trolley was scheduled to leave, and purchased our tickets well in advance.

About fifteen minutes before the trolley was set to leave, the woman who sold the tickets came up to us and asked us if we would be willing to squeeze my older son, who we'd bought a ticket for, in between two of us or on a lap if she refunded us for the ticket. Explaining, she told us she had a very irate man who had shown up at the last minute and demanded he be sold a ticket for THIS trolley ride, and simply refused to take no for an answer despite being told repeatedly that there were NO SEATS LEFT.

We felt bad for her so we agreed. I saw the man in line as we were getting on board, and he looked for all the world like a respectable, white-haired gentleman who could have been somebody's grandpa. There was no shame at all about him; he was as proud as a peacock that he'd gotten his way. The last group of people who got on board was another family of four, and because of where this man chose to sit (and of course refused to BUDGE), they ended up having to split up and sit all over the trolley instead of being together as they obviously would have preferred.
