An American Tail: Fievel Goes West (1991)

Reviews and Comments

Steven Spielberg produced (but Don Bluth did not direct) this sequel to the 1986 original. The Mousekewitz family are settled in America, but Fievel wants to journey west and be a cowboy. In terms of storytelling and structure, it has an edge over the first film; yet, Fievel Goes West is more of a traditional animated feature (and thus less original), and the danger to the Mousekewitz family is less ominous and oppressive. John Cleese and Jimmy Stewart provide excellent voices for supporting characters. The most noteworthy musical number, Dreams To Dream, is less memorable than the original's Somewhere Out There, but every bit as beautiful.
