It's always, "How are things in Kansas?" "I'm still poor and working a dead-end job. How are things in Florida?" "Well, I didn't die from heatstroke again while mowing the lawn, and my parents still suck." "Okay, bye." I mean, there's not even anything worth talking about anymore, really. I'm not trying to be mean to my sister or anything, but that's just how it is.

I really wasn't going to comment on this thread, but here I go. Call your sister. Would it surprise you if she was sitting around wishing she could hear from you? You don't have her phone number? Hey, this is the 21st Century and you are sitting there at a computer. Look it up.

I went without seeing my sister for six years. It was in the 60's and there was no email. Long distance calls were expensive and you couldn't hear very well anyway. We talked on the phone once or twice a year, and we both sent 8mm movies of our kids. We also wrote a letter or two a year.

But things changed. I got a good deal on flying to California and spent some time out there with her. After our kids were grown, we visited back and forth and got to be very close. Now she lives about 2.5 hours from me and we see each other all the time. I feel badly about those years we missed, but happy that we have the chance to make up for it. Sure, we fought like cats and dogs as kids, but growing up changes all of that. Call your sister. You might find that she needs you as much as you need her.
