something wild

We have a minor problem. Something is eating our corn. I suspect a 'coon. Several stalks were knocked down the other morning, and a number of ears were eaten right down to the cob. It was such a neat job, only a raccoon could have done it.

We are in the middle of a wildlife boom in many parts of the country. We see deer and wild turkeys all the time. But a generation ago, we went for decades without seeing either. Raccoons almost equal 'possums in the road kill department. The little bandits are everywhere.

Black bears are being reported far from any protected areas.

We have always had squirrels, 'possums, and rabbits in our neighborhood, but their numbers are increasing. So I guess I need to grow a larger garden. That way, maybe the wildlife will share it with me.
