Nannie's Birthday party
Preparations are still underway for Velma's (Willette's mom) birthday party. We are in the final week. She actually turns 90 a couple of days after the party.

We went down on Friday to help her plant her garden. She would not want all of those people dropping by and seeing her garden unplanted. It took hours of tilling and planting. Temperature were in the 90's which made it necessary for us to work early and late, but she now has tomato plants, and peppers, showing and the seeds of okra, corn, beans, peas, and such are in the rows waiting for rain.

We went down to the church to see the room where the party will be held, and found it to be big and cool with comfortable chairs and a kitchen in one end. The cake and stuff have all been bought or at least ordered.

Nannie has two children, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, so far. Her granddaughter has number six due this fall. All four generations will be represented and, with a little luck, all will be there.

We hope some of her friends in nursing homes will get sprung for the day and will be able to atttend. We are also expecting guests from out of state.

It is rare to find such a healthy, active 90-year-old. By this time next week, it will all be over and plans for her 100th birthday will be underway.
