global football

No, not soccor. I'm worried about global warming becoming a political football. I've been around long enough to see that the climate where I live is warmer than it was 20 years ago, and that was warmer than it was 20 years before that. Sixty years ago, the word "cold" was blue with icicles on it.

I've also been to Alaska three times and I have seen glaciers receed back up their valley. But why does it have to be a political arguement? One lifetime is not long enough to say for sure that the earth is warming up, but it's evidence that cannot be ignored.

When East Tennessee stops having snowfall, something has changed. In 1960, we had over 50 inches of snow in January, Feburary, and March. The first few winters of this century, no winter has exceeded five inches. Most of that was a few snowfalls of less than an inch to about two inches. Most winter days, a light jacket is enough.

I live 935 feet or so above sea level, so that is not a problem for me. My house is air conditions as are my car and truck. But I am still worried. I'd like to hear what others think about it. Are we really not quite out of the last ice age? Is sea level really rising? If we are really warming up, what is the cause?

It seem that when an issue becomes a political football, we lose track of how important it is. As a result, nothing happens. If coastal cities are going to become swamps, can we afford to sit back and do nothing?
