Travel is like that.

Travel is an adventure. Things go wrong and you have to adjust. Sometimes, even plan B is not enough.

My cousin from California is on her way to our house tonight. She flew into Nashville and is now on her way here in a rented car. The weather is not on her side. It is raining and storming the entire length of her route. Just out of Nashville, I-40 came to a complete stop. (We know all of this because of the magic of cell phones.) There was a wreck that blocked the highway. Finally, she got moving again and there was another small problem. Her 4-way flashers were on and in an unfamiliar car, she didn't know how to turn them off. I'm still wondering how she managed to get them on.

Still driving with lightning and thunder and pouring rain, she has started up the western escarpment of Cumberland Plateau. The plateau is known for extreme weather. It is always wetter, colder, windier, and foggier than anywhere else in the state. We expect her here about 10:30.

My guess is that she will be wound up and still on California time, so we will be up late. But it will be good to see her. I think it has been about three years.
