I live in a mature hardwood forest and you don't see as many birds as you would expect. You can hear them, but some of them stay up in the canopy and make their presence known by singing.

Not knowing what the shy ones look like, I have been forced to give them a name based on their song.

We hear a lot of video birds. They sing out, "Video, video, video." We also have the cheater bird, whose song is "Cheater, cheater, cheater, cheat."

The telephone bird sounds like a phone ringing in the distance, and the garbage truck bird sound like a backup alarm on a garbage truck. We also have some kind of owl (weak horn owl, maybe) that makes a noice like trying to blow your horn when your battery is almost dead.

The ambulance bird makes a noise like one of those creapy ambulance horn/sirens way off in the distance.

Or maybe it's just one mocking bird singing out with the sounds he hears.
