We hear all about how we have to wipe out poverty and fix the "gap between the rich and the poor," but I'd venture that the "poor" in our country have a better standard of living than the majority of the rest of the world's population.

Our government is in debt up to the eyeballs, and shows no sign of being responsible, debt wise, but people are doing very well. Yes, we have the hardcore poor and unemployeed, but when the "minimum" new house in a subdivision has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and an attached garage, people aren't too awful poor.

I always thought of poor people as those who have debts that exceed their assets, but now, if they are employeed and have a chance of working their way out of debt in about three decades, we don't call them poor anymore.

I just wish that people could understand that paying high interest for things they can get along without is a ticket to the poor house.

I can remember being so poor we were doing without things that other people thought were necessities. But avoiding the purchase of things we could do without paid off. All of my kids know how to get the most for their money. That usually means not buying something until they can pay for it.
