I suspect my definition of classic is the same as everyone elses--namely, a classic is something that was popular before I was born (or before I can rememer, anyway, so let's say pre-1980) that I think is quaint and that I find it vaugely humorous that adults of the time often found it shocking. The Beatles, for example, are classic rock. So are many 70s groups who were the forerunners of the music I like from the 80s and the early 90s (Blue Oyster Cult, Deep Purple, Three Dog Night, Grand Funk Railroad). Like most people, my definition is fluid, as Black Sabbath was definitely a 70s band, but I don't consider them classics. I see them as the first real metal band, and thus they fall firmly on the other side of the spectrum from "classic rock". I also tend to find people who are still in love with "classic" music to be out of touch and lost in the past. Pretty much exactly how you probably think of me.
