OK. I can see that it is up to me to settle this thing about classics. Nothing written since 1949 is classic. Very little written before that is classic. It isn't just the time period that is important. It has to be good and it has to be written by someone who is good at writing music. It helps if the performer is talented, but that part is no biggy.
Take "White Christmas" for example. Irving Berlin was a pretty darned good songsmith. Bing Crosby was a talented crooner. And the song has stood the test of time. So maybe, just maybe, it is a classic. But it still doesn't make my list. Howard
