Because there isn't a large and well-funded body of people trying to promote (for example) the notion that the universe hatched from an egg resting on the knee of Ilmatar as she lay in the ocean. This is a Finnish creation myth. If it was being promoted as a scientific theory, and its promoters were attempting to get it taught in biology classes, you can bet scientists would attack this creation story every bit as savagely as Christian creationism.
