But I also find it overly rose-colored to suggest that scientists, both as individuals and as research organizations, don't do this to an extent. Nobody is truly objective. No matter how much we might like to think otherwise, we all see the world through personal and therefore skewed perspectives.

I don't dispute your last points. But daniel's post specifically claimed that scientists are not "nearly as open-minded as they should be" which to me is a far cry from "they're subject to some biases."

I would suggest that scientists are probably among the most open-minded of many professions, because their training and work absolutely hinges on their being so.
