I appreciate the way you're feeling, here goes.

It looks like there's one place you still need to go to be able to access the final encounters, so I recommend mapping it.

My advice is fairly simple. Much in this game depends on your minions. If you played Murkon's Refuge first, you'll know what monsters you hated to fight; maybe the adventurers feel the same? Also, remember Murkon's basic battle tactics; that and persistence will get you to your goal.
