"You don't really know what's wrong, do you?"

I feel like the Snakes 'n' Ladders player who landed on the 99 snake and got sent back all the way to one.

I was admitted to the Hospital on Monday bright and early at 8am. Being a cancer patient, I got one of the two beds available. Three people had to be refused and their operations, whatever they may have been for, were cancelled. I sympathised, especially later on, given what was about to happen that day.

I was shown to my bed and unpacked all my stuff, ready to be operated on today. Various docs came and saw me during the day and explained what was going to happen. I was prepared for a long stay of at least a week.

It was not to be. At around 6pm, the consultant came to me (the folks were there too by then) and explained that he had been in talks with the Marsden Hospital all day. They and he had had a complete change of opinion and decided it couldn't be thyroid cancer after all and that doing the surgery would be a waste of time. Not at all what I got told last week as back then they were perfectly happy for it to go ahead. They think it's lung cancer because I have two small tumours on the lungs. Personally, I think it's from something else as yet undiscovered, but that's only my own opinion. So, since the op was off, I was discharged and allowed to go home.

The other thing to make them hesitate, is that the tumour in my brain is pressing hard and affecting my eyes. So to that end I will (hopefully) start radiotherapy on Thursday. I was due to get radioiodine treatment, but as there was a negative result for thyrogloblin, that tends to mean not-thyroid, so radioiodine won't work.

I think lots of radiotherapy and a bout of chemo is now the most likely course of action. At least I know they're doing something. The oncology nurse told me my case occupies 90% of their case meetings.

I just wish they could make their minds up for sure.

Still here and kicking.
