St Mary's Possible Bug found

So, I completed the time traveling quest, and the two teachers told me I don't need to go back in time anymore, but they let me go for fun. So I went back, and I was wandering around the basketball court, and I picked my lighter out of the item box, an dit had the offer to give it to the chess players.

Now, the chess players had by this time moved from outside the west entrance to the basketball court, but I traveled back in time. They aren't there, so why is the option?

Is this a bug?
