No, you're still missing something, I guess. See, you've already *got* a permanent AC spell going. If you look at your display out of combat, you'll see that that permanent AC spell is, in fact, +5.
So, if you are given another permanent AC spell of +1, the net effect is *nothing*. The only way you'll notice a difference is if you manage to obtain an AC spell of +6 or more.

Permanent AC spells are entirely unaffected by battles starting and ending. Being in an "entirely different and new" blue battle has no effect on the strength of the current permanent AC spell you've got going.

Nope, checkpoints don't affect permanent AC spells either. The only way permanent AC spells falter is from traps.

If you can't define your problem, I certainly can't. As far as I can tell, there isn't any problem. The last red party is one you can freely walk to, though you do have to walk through a minion-killing force field to get there. You don't even have to mess with wall switches to do it.
