I have to pick on you here. This is entirely the wrong way to go about solving these games. The best question to ask, when asking for hints, is, "What do I do next?" You're not supposed to look at the hints forum, find out what you haven't gotten to yet, and then ask how to do it. One, that can potentially ruin the game for you -- you're not supposed to know what's coming up in the game you're playing, and knowing it never helps, although it can hurt. Two, what makes you think there aren't ten puzzles between you and the "rat" or the "gun"? Asking how to find the gun is, more likely than not, asking how to solve a puzzle you haven't gotten to yet that you won't need help on when you do get to it. The problem is compounded in games -- like this one! -- that provide alternate solutions. The items you mention might only be in one particular solution path, while you took another.
