There are two animal pens, but there are separate options for examining and entering each one -- you need to examine each one independently before you get the option to enter it.

You can't do anything with the file in the demo version. There were a large number of details that I stripped out of the game for the demo because they weren't relevant to the limited story and setting you see, but a few such things I left in -- though you can't get the file, the fact that you *could* have done something with it, had you been able to take it, a little later on is reason enough to leave it in the demo, I figured.
