If you still need help although this post has sunk to the bottom-

Rum IS the answer. In Story Hunt (one of my favorite features next to Adventure Games Live), to go further, you must find the answer using the clues and, when you think you have the answer- edit the link in the browser.

This is what it says when you are in Duke of Gloom chapter 1 (where you are now).
When you have the answer type this in:

http://www.rinkworks.com/storyhunt/1/[answer].shtml

So, since you have the answer- "rum" you type in:

http://www.rinkworks.com/storyhunt/1/rum.shtml

And you will be in Chapter 2. Don't think of the Story Hunt clues as a place nessacarily, think of it as a password.
