How do i get into the garden? I can get there, but the guard won't let me in. I've tried giving him a coin but it doesn't work.

Inventory:
sack
bow
arrow
(my sword disappeared)
shovel
club
silver key
gold key
carrots
hammer
nails
rope
branch
ticket
sunstone
fishing pole
fish (gave to the gnome)
magic stone
gold coin from sprite,(gave to soothsayer)
gold coin from diamond change (gave to soothsayer)

I haven't found a coin near the boat but i hear that there's one there.
do i need to get past the orc farther?
i can't pick up leaves because it won't let me.
am i missing something huge?
