There really aren't any "teleporters". Not any that would actually teleport your characters.
What the "Jump to town" option does is simply change the *user interface* to show characters in another town. If you have characters in multiple towns simultaneously, it's pretty much the only way to select characters that are currently in another town.
To repeat: No character ever teleports anywhere. *YOU*, the human playing Murkon's Refuge, do. If you didn't, then characters in another town would have to wait until another character moves there to be able to do anything at all. Even if they're perfectly healthy and just aching to go bashing monsters.

How do I leave a character in the first place without deleting it entirely? Sounds pretty dumb of me not to be able to reason that one out. Just whenever I enter the labyrinth, all my characters go with me. Can't seem to get any of them to 'stay behind'. Please help!!

Characters don't just up and elect to get leaved behind. You have to make them stay behind yourself. Use the "Remove character" option. It does not delete or destroy your character - it removes him/her from your party and makes him/her stay at the town. The character remains in Murkon's Refuge, in the same state as he/she was when you removed him/her from the party.
Contrast this with "Delete character" which really does permanently delete and destroy your character. Use "Delete" with care!

> But, so far I tried leaving a dead on in the clinic. Ended up with me carting a dead one into the labyrinth. Tried not hitting the 'rest' button and moving out of the inn. They came along in their delapidated state. Nobody is ever willing to remain behind and I have no idea how to get out of town with only 4 or 5 of the six in the 'raiding party'.

As I said, characters never *WANT* to stay behind. Using "Remove character" is the only way to make them stay at the town.

No, it's no trick. (If it was, how would you expect anyone to pull it off? This is the only interface to Murkon's Refuge we have.) Just use the "Remove character" option.
