Well, Scots and I were speculating...

The pirates told Will that they'd gotten rid of Bootstrap Bill by tying his leg to a cannon and dropping him in the ocean...

But he was under the curse like the rest of them, right? So that means they couldn't kill him. All they did was send him to the bottom of the ocean for a while. We saw the whole lot of them walking along merrily free from harm in their cursed state underwater, so we know an undead pirate isn't going to drown.

The whole episode with Bootstrap happened shortly after they discovered they were cursed, but before they knew they needed his blood to free themselves from it. So that means it's probably been at least eight years or more since Bootstrap went to the bottom of the Caribbean. More than enough time for a resourceful zombie pirate to free himself and swim back to the surface, and thence to land.

So we figure Will's father is still alive somewhere, and now curse-free, of course. Don't know if that has the makings of a good sequel or not, though.
