Brackly Hall - Knife

Hi all,
I am stuck in Brackly Hall. I keep seeing inventory listings that include a pocket knife which I feel must help in releasing the bird. I have lots of things I know must lead somewhere but I am just not sure where to look. I have read lots of clues but have seen nothing on where to locate the pocket knife. Can someone please advise?
