I did my best to avoid the news during all that drug-out process in 2000. The groaner for us in Mississippi was that we had just had to wait for the legislature to settle our gubernatorial race in 1999, the populace's election tally being too close to call. What really made it annoying was that the legislators voted party-line instead of voting along with their constituency's wishes in the at-large election. But it all turned out ok, even though it was a long four years--the bum got decisively voted out of office by the populace.
