A couple of more recent examples would be Lilo & Stitch and to a lesser extent, Finding Nemo.

The Lilo & Stitch movie, I thought, did a good job of showing how their parents' deaths effected Lilo and her sister--Lilo's loneliness, her need for guidance, and the struggle her sister had to provide that guidance and a stable homelife--without sacrificing entertainment value. It had just the right touch; a more heavyhanded approach wouldn't have appealed to the audience they were aiming for.

With Nemo, the parental death seemed more of a set up for the father's character motivation than anything else--but okay, it serves its purpose and does, in a limited way, explore the ripple effect of loss and grief.

So I'm not sure the whole premise that
"Disney should deal with issues like death" is particularly justified--seems like they *have* dealt with the issue already in a way that's appropriate both in terms of audience expectations for entertainment and in the financial return their stockholders require.
