Burning the cards

For the first time since the Vietnam era, Americans are burning their cards. But this time it's not draft registration cards. It's AARP cards. This organization started out as a pro-senior citizen group. But they got heavily into the insurance business, and began using their power to help pass legislation friendly to the insurance industry. They stabbed a lot of seniors in the back. So we are the ones burning our AARP cards. My wife and I canceled our membership this morning. We had belonged for almost 20 years. The new Medicare legislation is not what they claimed it to be. We will be out more than $800 per year each, and our medications will not be a cent cheaper. Yes, we have a plan that helps cover the cost, but we have to pay for the new Medicare too. AARP understood this legislation and supported it, probably with our money. There are others who share the blame, but I will deal with them at the next election.
