It was a horse-looking thing with talons. The game is called Stellar 7 and a search revealed that it's some sort of sci-fi computer game that was published in 1990. Unsurprisingly it doesn't work on my computer.

Ah, Stellar 7. I have fond memories of playing the C64 version. It's a Battlezone clone. (Of the original Battlezone, not the new one with all the digitised graphics and so on.) You are piloting a Raven tank and your task is to destroy the Arcturan forces. It's all done in 3D graphics. Wire-frame on the C64 but I think the graphics were filled on the PC.
Stellar 7 spawned a sequel: Nova 9: The return of Gir Draxon, which I recently bought for my Amiga.
