Well, we finally did it. My son-in-law and I loaded up the 1956 Volkswagen and hauled it to West Virgian for restoration. I probably won't see it again before spring, but by then it will look very different. It will cost a truck load of money, but when I get it back it will be a new-looking Volkswagen bug with a small oval back window and a sunroof.

We are still debating the color but the restorer wants to do it in "Horizn Blue" and that sure looks good to me. He showed me pictures of a number of cars that he has restored and a couple of them were that color. It's a pale blue and is one of the colors originally available on that model. We're undesided about white wall tires.

This will be Willette's car, but I think she will let me drive it to a couple of bug shows each year. That might be a good time to pass around a tin cup to recoup some of the cost.

On the way back from WVa, we stopped and picked up the car my SIL had when he was 16. It was still sitting in his mother's garage. When we got it out into the sunlight we saw a classic 1970 Triumph hardtop sports car with badly oxidized maroon paint. It has three minor dents, and no rust. The chrome is not pitted and the interior is perfect. It has about 27,000 miles on the speedometer. A tuneup and new paint will make it look like new. Triumphs were built in England and this one has a 2-liter, six cylinder engine and four speeds.

I looked around, but there were no Cushmans in there. Can't win 'em all.
