OK. Visit the farm south of where you started and collect some things very good for your eyesight. Re-visit the chasm near the cave. Once you're there, you can use a number of things in your inventory to get you across. That opens up a whole new area to explore. The items you get at the farm are useful but you may want to explore a little before using them.
