How do you get NERDs past JoCKS

I am playing the Trail of anguish. It is saturday morning/early afternoon. I have a crowbar, calculator, backpack,map,shoes,and a few other things i think. I am trying to get the nerds to follow me to the junkyard, but the jocks from thorius hall or whatever it is called, but they always get chased away. Do I need to do something else before I take them there? Thanks for replying.
