Right now, you can post messages all over the place if it is all text, but wouldn't it be nice if there was a bulletin board that would allow graphics? Maybe even full page posters?

Yeah, there is a type of board that can do that. I often post on the Ultimate Guitar board (follow link if you like) which is a vBulletin-driven board. That uses a simple version of HTML called vB code to display pictures, graphic smileys and text effects.

Although this does look good, it has its problems. It encourages people to post messages with enormous graphics, even when they're completely unwanted and unnecessary. What's really annoying is people having graphics in their automatic signature, so you have to wait an age to see yet ANOTHER still from The Matrix every single time they post. Particularly if they use the board like a chatroom.

This could be said to be a fair price to pay for added functionality, but my guess is that Sam is going to want to stay with this board. He wrote the code himself, so he doesn't have to worry about subscriptions or royalties...and I bet it would be kind of nice to see loads of people deriving enjoyment from something you've made by yourself.
