Actually, I think Windows XP might have done
away with that. It's not actually a DOS thing, but
as near as I can tell/remember, every time I've
run Scandisk since upgrading to XP, I've had
to restart the machine to run it, and then it runs
outside of the Windows environment, so there
is nothing else running to interrupt it.

Well, a self-destructing hard drive can still
interrupt it, but if that's the case, having to
restart it is moot.
