When I heard about the damage in Jackson, my first thought was that somebody on RinkWorks lives there. But my old brain couldn't remember who. I think your loss is greater than New Hampshire's (Old Man), but downtown Jackson will probably be rebuilt. It won't be the same, but it will recover. Other Tennessee towns have had the same experience. Clarksville, Nashville and to a lesser degree, Lenoir City have suffered tornado damage. The Lenoir City storm plowed through a residential district and hit one end of down town. One person was killed. She was an elderly lady who lived in a house across the street from my classroom. But I was no longer teaching in that school. The old school, now an apartment complex, suffered only minor damage, while the houses across the street were flattened.

Right now I am sitting here surrounded by storm watches and warnings, and TVA has just asked the weather service to post a flood warning all up and down the eastern Tennessee River valley. The river is already four feet above flood stage in Chattanooga. I am not looking forward to driving to Georgia later today. It rained another inch last night with more in the forcast. It is difficult to think of tornados, falling rock ledges, floods and the like as "just nature taking it's course," but that's what it is. Maybe it will all be over soon.
