In my senior year of high school, one of my classes had a lot of emphasis on philosophy, particularly that relating to human existence and the nature of reality. In one of the first classes, the teacher told us to prove that we weren't each a brain in a jar in a lab somewhere, being tricked into all our sensory impressions.

Nobody could do it, of course, and that managed to freak the class out pretty well. It ended up being a really fantastic class, and I learned a lot of stuff that was relevant to me in my college classes, but boy... that thought certainly did startle us all for a while.
