I'm a huge movie fan. I love the Oscars. I've been looking forward to them quite a bit this year, as it looks like a very interesting year. For the first time ever, I've even seen all the movies nominated for Best Picture (I've probably seen 90% of the movies nominated in major categories). I believe the war in Iraq is a just, necessary thing. All the same, I wish the Oscars would be delayed.

I am far less interested in the Oscars right now than I would be normally. I'm not saying we can't have entertainment or anything, but I'm not in the mood for a huge celebration of movies. They're going to cut the red carpet stuff, which is weird: that's only slightly more silly than the Oscars anyway. I mean, the entire show is one big night of people telling their colleagues how great they are. It won't be the same without the insipid pre-show (which I enjoy watching to mock).

The fact of the matter is, my country will likely be killing people come this Sunday. Many of them will be innocent people who have never done my country wrong. It is probable that my countrymen will be also be getting killed while doing this. Do I feel these actions are justified? Yes. Do they make me happy? Most certainly not. I have a sort of sickly feeling in my stomach over the whole thing. People are going to be dying. It is not a good thing.

Will I watch the Oscars? Yes. Will I be enjoying them as much as I would otherwise? Probably not.

Stephen
