A possibly belated question to ask, but did you put your U.S. work status on your resume? A potential employer that looks at your resume and sees a lot of work experience in this exotic place called "New Zealand" will undoubtedly wonder if you are a U.S. citizen, or if you're trying to get a company to sponsor you on a visa. If they're really interested in you, they'll call and ask, but a lazy employer with a lot of resumes might not want to bother. If it says "Work Status: U.S. Citizen" or so on your resume, that'll clear that one up before it ever becomes an issue.
