After seeing Billy Elliot recently, I wondered about the mine strikes in England around 1984. I tried a search on Google but didn't find much (or didn't know what exactly to search on).

I'm interested in what set off the strike (is it the just the usual?), how it played out, and what the final outcome of it was? The movie made it out that Thatcher was hardballing the whole thing and that the mining industry in England was basically ended because of it all.

But there is obviously more to it than that. And I'm looking for a recounting of events, not commentary about the working man or the fight against socialism.
