On the rare occasions that I find a pair of shoes which fit and are comfortable, I tend to buy a few pairs of them, so I can save the spare pair for when the first ones wear out. This is why I have apparently been wearing the same two pairs of shoes (tevas about nine months of the year, and sneakers in the depths of winter and for formal occasions such as weddings and funerals) for about six years now.

Using that term was one of my little "translate into American" moments, because I knew nobody would know what I meant if I said "reefwalkers", which is what they are called here. I had not heard the word "tevas" until Leen visited a couple of years ago. "Sandals" doesn't work, because sandals are the indoor or at least non-h4rdc0r3 version. And "sports sandals" just sounds stupid.

Just for the record (here in the middle of North America) I know what reef walkers are but never heard of "tevas."
