I know you've mentioned the old man in recovery (it will be a long time before you can help him) but you already got the earring from the gal, right ? now that you have more jewelry, why not take it to see what you can get from the guy on the business card ?
so often, in this game, anything you acquire opens other options in places where you've already been. hope this helps
