Snow, unlike rain, sticks around for a while after it falls. If the weather is cold enough, it is quite possible to have snow on and around the ground for several days after the last actual snowfall. Of course, it starts getting all mushy and dirty and generally not-so-nice after a day or two.

While it is actually snowing, however, you generally don't want to be out and about. This depends on the rate of the snowfall and your tolerance for getting wet and cold, but heavy snowfalls make it very difficult to drive as they lower visibility.
