This morning we woke up uncertain what we were going to do... if you were following the weather this weekend, you may know that a nor'easter hit all of New England last night and today, dumping nearly two feet of snow in some areas. So first thing, we turned on the Weather Channel (thank goodness for free hotel cable) and learned that God was with us, and that while Maine was still getting slammed, the rest of New England had tapered off and would probably be safe for us to drive into. So we headed out around 10:00am.

Our first stop came at 1:00 in Wilkes-Barre, PA. We filled up the gas tank again and then crossed the road to park at McDonalds and have lunch. Getting on our way again, we ended up stopping again at 2:30 at a rest area to take care of some necessary business.

Let me say that driving from west to east through the entire length of Pennsylvania is WORSE than the trip from north to south through Alabama. Perhaps the Penn State should be split into two halves, east and west, much like the Dakotas or the Carolinas are split north/south. We had to have spent almost half the entire drive in PA.

It wasn't that bad, really. Pennsylvania has beautiful scenery, especially in the mountainous regions, and with the trees full of snow, it truly was a winter wonderland. Still, hitting the New York border was a welcome relief.

New York went by really quickly. Connecticut took a bit longer. Hartford traffic sucked. Night fell just after we got out of Hartford. Soon we hit the Massachusetts border, and then came to I-90 a lot sooner that I thought we would.

On I-90, the weather, which had been great all day; no snow at all except for a few short flurries in the PA mountains, took a turn for the worse. The snow began falling again, and with the onset of night and temperatures dropping, it began to stick to the road. So the closer we got to our end destination, the slower and slower traffic became. But after getting off of 495 onto 93, things began to look familiar, and that always helps.

So now we're here.

Yippeee!
